Troubleshooting

MCP server troubleshooting for Vidmatic: if the server or a skill is not doing what you expect, find the symptom below. The MCP server reference lists every tool, and what your agent receives explains transcript states.

Why does /mcp list vidmatic as "Needs authentication"?

The server is registered but you have not signed in. Run /mcp, choose vidmatic, choose Authenticate, and approve in the browser. If browser sign-in is unavailable, use an API key from Settings → Developer → Build my command.

Why is a Vidmatic tool or skill missing?

The server does not push tool-list changes to an open session. Reconnect vidmatic from /mcp, or restart your client.

I ran the API key command and nothing changed

Claude Code reads the key when it starts. Restart it once.

Why is there no Vidmatic slash command in Cursor?

Cursor does not document a slash command for MCP prompts. Ask the agent to call get_skill(name="<skill>") and follow it.

Why does the transcript say it is processing?

The recording is still uploading or being transcribed. The response says how many seconds to wait, and your agent waits and asks again. If it is still processing after twenty minutes, open the recording in Vidmatic and check that the upload finished.

Why does my recording have no transcript?

A timelapse has no audio, and neither does a recording made with no microphone. Your agent works from the marks and the thumbnail instead.

Transcription failed

The transcript status is failed. Your agent can still read the marks and the thumbnail. Re-record if you can, or open a support ticket with the recording link.

The agent cannot read a recording someone shared with me

Use the Give this to your agent panel on their share link. The prompt it copies includes --token; without it your agent can read only your own recordings.

A demo line is too long

preflight_narration marks lines that do not fit their slot as tight or over. Shorten them, or give that moment more screen time, and check again.

The demo shows a sign-in page instead of my app

The saved sign-in expired. An unused one lasts about a day. Run /mcp__vidmatic__record --init on a machine with a display to save a new one.

The demo is not public

Your account may be set to private in Settings → Demo videos, or the skill ran with --private. Open the demo from your Inbox and turn on its public link. An agent publishes only when its connection has the Record & publish demos level. With Read only it cannot record demos at all.

Vidmatic failed to resolve host

Your computer could not find the Vidmatic server's address, so the request never left your network. Your tool may word it as "Could not resolve host", "Failed to resolve", "ENOTFOUND" or "ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED". Vidmatic uses one address: https://api.vidmatic.ai/mcp, and uploads go to the same host.

  1. Check the address. mcp.vidmatic.ai, app.vidmatic.ai and vidmatic.com are not ours. Remove the server and add it again with claude mcp add --transport http --scope user vidmatic https://api.vidmatic.ai/mcp. If you set VIDMATIC_API_URL, unset it.
  2. Test DNS. Run curl -sS https://api.vidmatic.ai/status. A reply means DNS works, so reconnect from /mcp. "Could not resolve host" means the problem is on your network.
  3. Check VPN, proxy or sandbox. A company VPN, DNS filter or sandboxed agent with a network allowlist can block the lookup. Allow api.vidmatic.ai, and www.vidmatic.ai for links.
  4. During a demo recording, the failing host may be your own app's address. Use a URL that opens in a browser on the same machine, such as http://localhost:3000.
